Supplementary grant

We recommend that you always apply for the supplementary grant. Whether or not you get the supplementary grant, depends on your parents' income. You only need to apply once. After this, usually neither you nor your parents need to arrange anything. We will then calculate each year if you are eligible for the supplementary grant.

The supplementary grant is a gift if you are in MBO level 1 (‘entrée-opleiding’) or 2. For MBO level 3 or 4, HBO, and university programmes, the supplementary grant is a ‘performance grant’. This means the supplementary grant becomes a gift if you obtain your diploma within 10 years. If you do not obtain your diploma within 10 years, you will need to repay the full amount, plus interest.

There is an exception to this: the first 12 months of supplementary grant you receive for MBO levels 3 or 4 and the first 5 months for HBO or university do not have to be repaid.
