Eligibility
Are you a national of an EU/EEA country Link opent externe pagina , Switzerland or the United Kingdom? You first need to comply with the conditions for your age and the course you are taking. You also need to meet one of the conditions below,even if you are only applying for a student travel product.
- You have been living in the Netherlands for 5 or more consecutive years.
- Or you are a migrant worker. You work in the Netherlands for at least 32 hours a month. A monthly income amounting to at least 50% of the social security norm is also sufficient.
- Or your partner or one of your parents is a migrant worker and is a national of an EU/EEA country, Switzerland or the United Kingdom. Your partner or parent works in the Netherlands for at least 32 hours a month. A monthly income amounting to at least 50% of the social security norm is also sufficient.
If your employment contract commences after the first of the month, then your student finance commences the following month.

Additional condition if you are from the UK
If you’re from the United Kingdom, you need to comply with the conditions set out above. You will also need a Dutch Article 50 TEU residence document. Or your parent or partner needs to possess a Dutch Article 50 TEU residence document.
Fewer than 32 hours of work
If you work fewer than 32 hours a month, you are not entitled to student finance. An exception is if you, your parent or your partner has been working for 6 months or more. In that case, an average of 24 hours a month is also sufficient.
- Fewer than 24 hours of work a month: no entitlement to student finance. Unless you are able to prove that you are a migrant worker.
- Between 24 and 32 hours of work a month: DUO assesses whether or not you are entitled to student finance.
