Overview

If you are no longer eligible for the student travel product, for example because your studies have ended, you must cancel it. If you use your student travel product while you are no longer eligible for it, you will be fined. This is also known as an OV fine. You must pay this fine to DUO. DUO collects the OV fine on behalf of the public transport companies.

How much fine?

Did you use your student travel product in the 1st month after you should have cancelled it? Then the fine is €89.54 per half a month in 2024 (€81.40 in 2023). The 1st half of the month runs up to and including the 15th of the month.

If you continue to use the student travel product after the 1st month, the fine is €179.10 per half a month in 2024 (€162.82 in 2023).

Cancelling your student travel product

Did you get an OV fine and haven’t you cancelled your student travel product yet? If you are still not eligible for it, you need to cancel your student travel product.
